Stitching Snow - R.C. Lewis

spoilerfree

Summary: Princess Snow is missing.

Her home planet is filled with violence and corruption at the hands of King Matthias and his wife as they attempt to punish her captors. The king will stop at nothing to get his beloved daughter back-but that's assuming she wants to return at all.

Essie has grown used to being cold. Temperatures on the planet Thanda are always sub-zero, and she fills her days with coding and repairs for the seven loyal drones that run the local mines.

When a mysterious young man named Dane crash-lands near her home, Essie agrees to help the pilot repair his ship. But soon she realizes that Dane's arrival was far from accidental, and she's pulled into the heart of a war she's risked everything to avoid.

My review: What a wonderful retelling of Snow White.

To be completely honest. I struggled with this in the beginning a lot. And I don't know why. I loved Essie, the main character, right away. I really enjoyed the writing. I loved the whole story and the whole new setting for the whole Snow White story. As soon as I found out that instead of seven dwarves, we had seen drones, I was over the moon.

Essie is one of those main characters that doesn't just somehow find her way into my heart, but that actually storms her way in my heart. She is strong, she is fierce, she is flawed, she is broken. SHE IS EVERYTHING. I just love her so damn much.
Dane on the other hand was a struggle. DUDE. I was suspicious of him in the beginning, hated him for a bit and then slowly but surely fell in love with him.

I loved the relationship between these two. She went through the same feeling as I did when it came to him. I loved it. It felt real and didn't seem rushed at all. Ugh, these precious babes.

There were a lot of heartbreaking things in this book. Essie's past. Everything her father did to her (it was only hinted at but I think we all know what happened there), and of course everything that Olivia did and try to do to her. There was some things with Dane's father that also broke me.

I just had too many feeling about this book.

Overall, I truly loved this retelling and the whole world that the author build for us. The writing was really great, the characters and their relationships were really well done.
