My review: Better than I expected!!!

I love the tv show and because I'm all caught up on everything there is to watch, I decided to dive into the books. I just want to go back into the world and interact with the characters again.

The writing/the narrator of the audiobook was also really good.

There weren't any big surprises, there wasn't anything that rocked my world. I still enjoyed this a lot though, even tho it was a really quick reading adventure. But it managed to make me feel closer to some of the characters, especially Tommy, who I was super indifferent about in the show, the book made me fall in love with him. I didn't expect that at all.

I'm totally going to stick with the books, I already got the second book ready.

The Cruel Prince!!!

Summary: Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.

And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.

Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.

In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

My review: I was prepared to be disappointed but I truly love this.

This is such another one of those well loved books that I finally decided to pick up. And I was worried that my luck would run out and I would end up hating the book instead of loving it. The beginning of the book wasn't that promising, to be completely honest.

I get why there was this big time jump in the beginning, but I would have truly loved to see more of the sisters after everything terrible happened, how they handled the new world. I mean we got glimpses of it, but I would have loved a bit more.

There were also moments that made my skin crawl because I just felt really uncomfortable with some scenes and what some of the characters did to my baby Jude. Ugh.

But. While this book has it's problematic moments, I totally realize and am not denying them. This book got me out of a reading slump.

I loved the writing/the narrator for this book. I loved the story. I just love diving into fae worlds. I loved the characters, most of them. Some of them. FINE, I mostly just loved Jude and Vivi. BUT I LOVE THEM A LOT. For all I care, all the men in the book can go to hell. Except for Oak, duh, he is the most adorable.

I can't wait to start the next book.

Netgalley ebook

Meine Bewertung: AAAAAAAAAAAAAH, so verdammt gut!!!!

JETZT!!!!!

***

Summary: Victor and Eli started out as college roommates—brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong.

Ten years later, Victor breaks out of prison, determined to catch up to his old friend (now foe), aided by a young girl whose reserved nature obscures a stunning ability. Meanwhile, Eli is on a mission to eradicate every other super-powered person that he can find—aside from his sidekick, an enigmatic woman with an unbreakable will. Armed with terrible power on both sides, driven by the memory of betrayal and loss, the archnemeses have set a course for revenge—but who will be left alive at the end?

My review: AAAAAAAAAAAAAH, so damn good!!!

I had absolutely no idea what to expect from this book, I heard a lot of people talking about it but I still had no clue what all of this was about and what to make of the story itself.

In the beginning I was really not sure about this, I couldn't stand either Eli nor Victor. These two aren't characters I really like to read about. But the story itself was super interesting and sucked me in right from the start.

Through the book I actually felt something for these two maincharacters. One of them I started to actually really like, especially in moments with Mitch and Sydney (who I loved right from the start, PROTECT THEM AT ALL COST). Eli, I just hated more with every chapter and every sentence.

I mean in the end, this book doesn't have really one morally good character. They are all somewhere in the grey zone but Eli is just, ugh, no thanks!!!

I just really love the writing from V.E. Schwab, right from the first page it sucked me in and held my attention. It was amazing. Also, the characters were so well written and so layered.

I'M JUST SO STOKED AND I NEED THE 2ND BOOK. NOW!!!!!!

Summary: Mia Corvere, gladiatii, escaped slave and infamous assassin, is on the run. Pursued by Blades of the Red Church and soldiers of the Luminatii legion, she may never escape the City of Bridges and Bones alive. Her mentor Mercurio is now in the clutches of her enemies. Her own family wishes her dead. And her nemesis, Consul Julius Scaeva, stands but a breath from total dominance over the Republic.

But beneath the city, a dark secret awaits. Together with her lover Ashlinn, brother Jonnen and a mysterious benefactor returned from beyond the veil of death, she must undertake a perilous journey across the Republic, seeking the final answer to the riddle of her life. Truedark approaches. Night is falling on the Republic for perhaps the final time.

Can Mia survive in a world where even daylight must die?

My review: I just love these books so damn much!!!

I won't go into much detail, this is the third and last book in this series and I don't want to drop spoilers left and right.

I just want to talk about the series as a whole and how much I love it. Since I first heard about these books, there was always this big hype about it, that always scared me away until I couldn't handle it anymore and started this whole series myself to see for myself.

The story itself drew me in right from the start, it's just so intersting and exciting. I just love a really good story about revenge. I love stories about assassins. I love amazing female main characters. And that's exactly what I got in this series. WOW.

Mia is totally one of my favorite characters by now, that's why it was so hard to say goodbye to her, now that this series is over. I want to read so many more stories about her. That's why I can't wait to read these books over and over again.

About the last book itself. There were moments I thought the book was going in the wrong direction, for me personally and how I wanted things to end. But at the end of it, I was more than satisfied with how things ended.

This series really has a really high spot in my favorite series lists.

Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions

Dear Ijeawele, or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Finally did a reread, still so damn good an important!!!!

***

Just like 'We Should All Be Feminists', this book is so damn important and everyone should read it.

I could've easily went through this book in one sitting in the span of a few minutes. But I didn't. I took my time and read every one of the suggestions and thought about them. I'm still thinking about them. I really wanted to soak up every word that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was writing, she has such a wonderful way with words and really gets the important message across.

I highlighted so many quotes that I just wanna reread a few times more (I'll probably end up reading the whole book a few times more, to be completely honest.)

Zerrissene Erde // The Fifth Season!!!

Zerrissene Erde - N.K. Jemisin, Susanne Gerold

german and english review

audible audiobook

Wow.

Summary: This is the way the world ends. Again.

Three terrible things happen in a single day. Essun, a woman living an ordinary life in a small town, comes home to find that her husband has brutally murdered their son and kidnapped their daughter. Meanwhile, mighty Sanze -- the world-spanning empire whose innovations have been civilization's bedrock for a thousand years -- collapses as most of its citizens are murdered to serve a madman's vengeance. And worst of all, across the heart of the vast continent known as the Stillness, a great red rift has been been torn into the heart of the earth, spewing ash enough to darken the sky for years. Or centuries.

Now Essun must pursue the wreckage of her family through a deadly, dying land. Without sunlight, clean water, or arable land, and with limited stockpiles of supplies, there will be war all across the Stillness: a battle royale of nations not for power or territory, but simply for the basic resources necessary to get through the long dark night. Essun does not care if the world falls apart around her. She'll break it herself, if she must, to save her daughter.

My review: This was so much more than I expected!!!

Wow. What a book. What a story.

I have no idea what I even expected but it sure as hell weren't these amazing, layered and just really special characters. I also didn't expect that amazing world that we slowly got to learn about.

I finished that book two days ago and I still don't really have my thoughts straight. So this is more of a "I love everything and everyone, the story is amazing and ripped out my heart and stomped it into million little pieces AND I loved every single moment of it" review.

The fact that I took away one star is because of the audiobook and the fact that the narrator drove me crazy. She was just so slow and monotonous. Not for me. But I still can't wait to dive into the rest of the books in this series.

Danny oder Die Fasanenjagd // Danny: The Champion of the World

Danny oder Die Fasanenjagd - Roald Dahl, Quentin Blake

german and english review

Inhalt: Dannys Vater ist Automechaniker und ... Wilddieb!

Meine Bewertung: Wunderbare Vater-Sohn-Beziehung!!!

Summary: Can Danny and his father outsmart the villainous Mr. Hazell?

Danny has a life any boy would love—his home is a gypsy caravan, he's the youngest master car mechanic around, and his best friend is his dad, who never runs out of wonderful stories to tell. But one night Danny discovers a shocking secret that his father has kept hidden for years. Soon Danny finds himself the mastermind behind the most incredible plot ever attempted against nasty Victor Hazell, a wealthy landowner with a bad attitude. Can they pull it off? If so, Danny will truly be the champion of the world.

My review: Wonderful Father-Son relationship!!!

It is done. This is the last Roald Dahl book that I had at gome that I still had to read. Now I just have to buy two or three more.

I planned on actually finishing this book in january but life happened and some health issues, everything that isn't related to the book at all. But that's why it took my a while to actually finish this book.

The book itself isn't one of my favorites but I still enjoyed it quite a lot and had lots of fun with it. I just love books that focus on Children-Parents relationships. I especially really loved the strong bond between Danny and his single father. The story itself was just really fun and I liked it a lot.

A highlight of mine was the Good Night story about the BFG.

James und der Riesenpfirsich // James and the Giant Peach!!!

James und Der Riesenpfirsch - Roald Dahl

***

Summary: When James accidentally drops some magic crystals by the old peach tree, strange things start to happen. The peach at the top of the tree begins to grow, and before long it's as big as a house. When James discovers a secret entranceway into the fruit and crawls inside, he meets wonderful new friends--the Old-Green-Grasshopper, the dainty Ladybug, and the Centipede of the multiple boots. After years of feeling like an outsider in his aunts' house, James finally found a place where he belongs. With a snip of the stem, the peach household starts rolling away--and the adventure begins!

My review: Totally in my top 3 of Roald Dahl books!!!

What a wonderful and magical journey this book was. It was just so much fun to join all the peach residents on their adventures, of course I could have done without all the bickering, but sometimes it was actually really funny.
